Fun afternoon ride (Deer Creek Express). Seats are assigned by the Purser, left side is best view. Purses are entertaining, professional and courteous. Highly recommend for the price point and duration of trip.
Only good if you have small children. Very slow and the first 25 minutes are driving through under construction neighborhoods. Also the wildlife they promise you will see is the animals in a small farm you pass through. One side you just see rocks the whole time and you never switch sides so you see the same view there and back . Not to mention out of the 90 minutes you are on the train at least 20 are spent waiting for the train to flip around, I wrote this whole review while waiting. The reservoir is not that attractive and can be better seen from a car. Save yourself if you don’t have small children. Don’t waste your time or money. Heed my warning please.
I was really looking forward to this ride, but unfortunately it is more geared towards children. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was 12 years old. First, there is no air conditioning in the car, which was miserable in the middle of July. I was hoping that the temperature in the car would be fixed by the open windows when the train started to move, but it went 10mph max the entire time so there was very little breeze. All of the staff seemed to be high school age, which was charming at times but did not lend itself to a good tour. The guided tour was entirely poorly-rehearsed lines, and it came across as a bad high school history presentation because none of the staff were particularly articulate. Whoever wrote the script for the tour added lots of jokes that maybe would have been funny if timed right (but I doubt it) and very little actual interesting information about the landscape or history of the area. As other reviews have said, they resorted to pointing out multiple people's backyard livestock instead of commenting on the actual interesting scenery. The scenery was good-- but the train route went 30 minutes one way, stopped for 20 minutes, and then went directly back for another 30 minutes (just in the opposite direction) so you really only got 30 minutes of a novel "scenic tour." The sights were good though! Very pretty hills and whatnot, wildlife, greenery, etc. There were fiddlers as well, who were very good for their age-- unfortunately, their ages were about 12 and 15. They played 5 or 6 very generic fiddle tunes, but it was much more enjoyable than the rest of the ride. Overall, I would avoid this attraction if you are over the age of 12. Children would get a good kick out of it though.
Love this! We did the scenic Saturday train but have been trying to find time for the Trivia Train! There is a bar cart on board and though GA is a little tight, you can go to the snack cart and hang out. Tickets sell out, definitely cannot get one day of unless you call and someone has canceled. All staff was SO nice and we showed up 8 minutes before the train left and they said they were about to call me to see if we were coming. How nice! I cannot say enough good about the Heber Creeper and staff! We were gifted a ride for a Christmas present this year, but there were complications with ages changing from not needing a ticket to needing a ticket, as well as concerns due to a lot of neurodivergence in our family. I called ahead, and they were very accommodating and reassuring. When we arrived, I was absolutely blown away by the kindness and service we received. From seating us somewhere as quiet as possible, to the sweet fiddlers who catered to our preferences and needs, to our wonderful host, Gloria. It was a night drive, so we couldn't see much, but Gloria pointed out lights to tell us where different things were. Gloria went above and beyond, engaging with our kids, sharing trivia, adjusting volume, activity and so on, based on our needs. Everyone was lovely, kind, and accommodating. The station was adorable, the train was great, and the old design was so interesting and pretty to look at. Even with our unique family needs and larger family size (7 people total,) we would definitely go back! Thank you all so much!
