I recently hired Salt City Renovations for a three-bathroom renovation. Although the project started out well, the experience ultimately left me with serious concerns about the company's business practices, particularly those of the owner, Marinda. Initially, communication was good, and I felt confident in my decision to hire them. Unfortunately, two separate subcontractors caused flooding in my lower level during the renovation. As the project progressed, communication deteriorated, and I found myself repeatedly following up on unresolved issues, correcting misinformation, and trying to get straightforward answers to basic questions. My greatest concerns involved the financial side of the project. There were repeated accounting discrepancies, including a nearly $1,000 credit omitted from the final accounting that I had to identify myself. Salt City also deducted undisclosed administrative fees from vendor refunds, and explanations about those deductions changed when I independently verified information with suppliers. I found the lack of transparency particularly troubling. When I questioned discrepancies in the final accounting, Marinda gave me an ultimatum: pay the final balance "as is" or she would terminate our agreement rather than continue discussing individual charges. This was despite unresolved issues and outstanding work. I paid in full simply to end the ordeal. Nearly a month later, I still have not received all the promised closeout documentation, and I've given up on getting remaining punch-list issues resolved. I do want to acknowledge that Valory, the project manager, was generally helpful and professional, and there are aspects of the finished renovations that I'm happy with. Unfortunately, those positives were overshadowed by the way the project ended. I hired a general contractor to manage the renovation, coordinate subcontractors, and handle vendor issues, not to spend my time correcting accounting errors, verifying information directly with suppliers, and repeatedly requesting documentation. Given the lack of transparency, questionable financial practices, and my experience dealing with the owner, I cannot recommend Salt City Renovations.
Update - We used Salt City for the start of our outdoor deck remodel and can’t speak highly enough of Jacob and his team. Jacob can work on my house any day of the week and I he is back next year when we want to finish the job. Marinda’s designs and team turned our kitchen from dark and dated to bright and opened! We love the quality of the work and design concept. I also have to say that the contractors that performed the work were all respectful of our home and our family and we were very grateful for that! Thanks so much!
I'm surprised that the reviews are good... I would be willing to pay more for a company that actually cares and communicates better. I made the 80% deposit payment to order my kitchen June 25th 2025 with the understanding that it would be completed in a month or so. We spent the whole summer with our kids without a kitchen, kind of feeling stressed about the whole process. We are approaching 3 months and still no communication of when it will be done. I understand that they had issues with delays with the manufacturer(which I don't blame them for), the project is now dragging because Salt city forgot to order some parts. I don't feel like they took accountability for the delay that their mistake created. After waiting for weeks for the cabinets, they finally got delivered, but I didn't have them installed for a while, so I saw them sitting in my house without any idea of what was going on. I've had a really hard time reaching Marinda, she answers texts maybe every other day with sometimes one word to multiple questions. She also doesn't answer my phone calls or calls back. Workers don't text you when they are on their way (which every other trade workers that I have hired usually do) so I have been wasting so much time waiting for someone to show up (and sometimes they haven't). The reason I went with them is because the cabinets looked really good and they seem good quality white oak, but I wish I went with a company that would charge more and execute promptly. It's kinds sketchy to me that they don't have a showroom or anywhere that we can actually go to meet with them, she kind of stopped responding leaving me wondering what is going to happen. I lost trust that they will complete this project and will have to look for another cabinet guy to work with me to finish it up.
Marinda does Amazing work and is enjoyable to work with! She is very talented and I love all of her ideas for creating the perfect space for my needs. She listens to what I want and knows how to accomplish exactly what I am wanting/thinking! I look forward to working with Marinda on future projects!
I had the opportunity to work with Marinda on my kitchen remodel. She helped us make great decisions about our cabinets and had many creative solutions to our unique space. When we hit bumps in the road, Marinda offered help and valuable insight.
