SAVE PEOPLE SAVE WILDLIFE
Save People Save Wildlife (SPSW), a registered 501(c)(3), was founded in 2015 by a group of local residents who were alarmed by the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions taking place along the gateway to Park City, Interstate 80. Why are we focused on SR 224? SR 224 is a Dangerous Roadway due to the high frequency of Wildlife Vehicle Collisions. In advance of the 2034 Olympics, where SR 224 is one of two options to get to Park City, both wildlife and public safety are of great concern. Exponential growth and development, as well as human activities, are squeezing the wildlife into specific options for them to traverse the Snyderville Basin. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has mapped wildlife migration routes in the area, but the mapped mule deer migration route does not intersect SR 224. However, multiple species of wildlife move throughout this area daily, and wildlife frequently cross this roadway, making it dangerous for both wildlife and motorists. Wildlife and human connectivity go hand in hand. Through collaborative efforts, we can implement evidence-based solutions for safe passage for wildlife in advance of the 2034 Winter Olympics.
