Had the absolute most horrific experience at Bark City Veterinary Specialists in Park City two days ago. I needed to take my big guy in to see a specialist for a severe limp in his wrist, as weas referred to these people from my primary vet. Showed up at 10 am for our appointment. The estimate for x-rays, bloodwork and a consultation came to $1300-$1800. Required a $1300 deposit so I presented my American Express where I was promptly told they don’t accept American Express. Offered them a personal check, they don’t accept personal checks. At that point they basically handed me my leash, told me I would have to call someone to pay for the consultation that we had just completed and was invited to leave. Refused to just bill me. Finally, I offered to go to the bank and withdraw $2000 which they said was fine. Came back and then they proceeded to tell me that they forgot to include the $150 for a radiologist to read the x-rays so I didn’t have enough money anyway. Called a friend who had a Visa card. Following bloodwork analysis dropped Levi back off when they texted me they were ready to do sedated x-rays. Sat outside for an hour and a half. Walked back in to find out how he was doing and they hadn’t even gotten him on the table yet. Told me that “other things came up.” I told them sedation on 140 pound dog who’s eight years old is never a good idea but if they had to sedate him for x-rays then to go Easy on the drugs. My regular vet told me to avoid sedation whenever possible. A senior dog at that size can easily go into cardiac arrest. They opted to give him an injection and then put his leg in a splint. Never told me that the follow up care would require four weeks of changing bandages that would cost $400 apiece. Under sedation. So another $1600 on a dog I cannot lift into the car because he weighs 140 pounds. And four more weeks of dangerous sedation. I grilled the vet before we decided to splint him on what the aftercare would look like and all she said was, “he would be in a splint for four weeks.” Never mentioned coming in weekly, never mentioned sedation, never mentioned $400 for each visit. And in fact, the vet (Lisa DiGiovanni) never came out after his procedure to talk to me about the findings or what his prognosis looked like. They sent a vet tech who couldn’t pronounce the big words. She gave me instructions on follow up care at home and basically told me if his foot swells up because they might’ve put the bandage on too tight then I would have to take him to an emergency vet. The folder they handed me does not have any diagnostics assessments or reports explaining what they found on x-rays. Just one and a half pages of aftercare that were completely contrary to what she told me in person. Completely. Never prescribed or sent me home with pain medication, and two days later, he is SUFFERING. Was there for six hours for what should have been a simple x-ray and assessment and they don’t listen to anything you say, address any concerns or advise you before you elect an optional procedure on what the aftercare would cost and entail. Total lack of transparency so they can sneak in another $1600 bill over the next four weeks. Didn’t bother to explain what he’s actually dealing with or what the x-rays found. Refused to leave the back room and left me asking frantic questions to a 10th grade front desk person answering the phone. I lost my mind a little bit, admittedly. Shame on them. This is what their level of compassionate care looks like. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. P.S. I had to leave when I got a literal eye roll from the staff, before I did something I would regret. P.P. S. you know how every vet you’ve ever gone to calls the evening of a procedure to see how your pet is doing? Well, guess who doesn’t? 🤔 (Picture of my boy because he's precious)
Amazing urgent care for our cat when we needed it. We were traveling, had an emergency, and were in the Park City area. All of the staff was wonderful and caring. They got my husband and I situated in a room while they immediately took our cat back for assessment. They gave us a clear explanation of what was needed and an estimate to approve. The doctor was compassionate, thorough, and explained everything to us. We were out in less than two hours, with our kitty on the mend.
My senior dog is struggling with nasal cancer and has a rapidly growing tumor. She has another primary care vet, but they couldn’t get her in. I called bark city and they said to bring her in asap. Dr Kate Larson and her staff were so amazing and kind. I needed a second opinion and help deciding what to do. My dog is normally so apprehensive and scared at the vet, Dr. Kate was so gentle and kind. She didn’t rush us and took the time to explain all of our options in a genuine way. It’s also nice that there’s a late night option in park city, they’re open until10pm fri-sun. Their office is beautiful and welcoming. Thank you so much for your kindness and care. We didn’t get a lot of answers (mainly since we aren’t doing a CT scan) but we feel confident going forward that Tilly will be comfortable until the time comes when we need to make the hard decisions.
I brought my cat, Pumpkin, to Bark City Veterinary this past Saturday after a disappointing experience at White Pine Vet, and I am so incredibly grateful I did. Two days prior, White Pine had attempted an enema that was unsuccessful. Because they had an interim doctor and closed early due to shortages, I left without an invoice or copies of his X-rays, and I was growing incredibly worried when he still hadn't passed anything. Their recommendation was to bring them to an ER, which the closest is Salt Lake City and for a cat that’s quite a drive. After seeing recommendations on Nextdoor, I decided to give Bark City a shot since they were open and close to home. From the moment we walked in, the staff was amazing. Even though they may primarily see dogs, I only say that cause of the reviews, not many of cats, the receptionists and vet techs were genuinely excited to welcome a cat. Dr. Kate Larson and her team were wonderful-they listened to my concerns, made me feel completely heard during a stressful moment, and worked mindfully within my budget constraints. They were able to perform a successful enema without needing sedation, meaning Pumpkin came back to me far less stressed than usual. As an added bonus, the exam rooms have windows! Taking a cat to the vet is usually a nightmare, but Pumpkin was completely preoccupied watching the ground squirrels outside because there exam room has windows. Pumpkin finally did his business about 30 minutes after getting home, and he has remained completely regular since. My relief is insurmountable. I will absolutely be switching to Bark City for his regular care. If you are a cat owner, do not hesitate to bring your cat here. Sincerely a grateful cat owner!
Dr. Stephen Jones came highly recommended and even with knowing all that, he proceeded to exceeded all of our expectations! The entire staff was attentive and available 24/7. Dr Jones was very thorough and helped us explore all of our options for our dog. His bedside manner was phenomenal! We ended up going with a Total Hip replacement which is no small commitment. He gave us great resources and made sure we were well educated! The actual procedure proved to have some complications due to unforeseen circumstances with our dog’s bone density. But he went above and beyond to make sure the procedure had a positive outcome. And we are so happy with all the effort he made to make our dogs life better! He takes such pride and ownership in all he does and it doesn’t go unnoticed! We can’t sing his praises loud enough. He has made it so our dog can have a great life and continue to bring joy to our family! Thank you Dr. Jones and staff!
