The NAC and all the individuals working there are awesome! I am the founder of Operation Pay It Forward and we have had our annual veteran amassador retreat here for the past 2 years and we are looking forward to coming again next year.
Visited here with a group of Veterans from the VA to work with the equestrian department. We had a great time! Amy and Molly were the equestrian staff we worked with and they were so patient. They answered all of my questions about horses and their care. The facility here is so nice and clean. They have tons of programming and what a great cause.
If you are a veteran with adaptive needs looking to get back out into nature, the National Ability Center (NAC) in Park City is a flat-out game changer. Their adaptive mountain biking program doesn't just offer a sports activity; it provides a profound sense of freedom, community, and adrenaline that many of us miss after transitioning out of the service. The fleet of equipment is incredible—ranging from advanced handcycles and recumbents to specialized three- and four-wheel adaptive mountain bikes—but it’s the staff and volunteers who make the experience world-class. They are friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The staff took the the time to dial in the perfect equipment fit and met every rider exactly where they are, whether you are a seasoned cyclist returning to the dirt or hitting the trails for the very first time. Riding the purpose-built, adaptive-friendly trails right from their back door provides a massive sense of freedom and camaraderie. For veterans looking to get back into the hills, challenge themselves and find a welcoming community that genuinely understands adaptive needs, the NAC mountain biking program is unmatched. Five stars all day.
Last week I had a phenomenal opportunity to do a week-long cohort through Heroes Haven, hosted by the National Ability Center. I do not have the words to explain accurately how wonderful this program is. It was a full mind, body and spiritial reset that included meditation, yoga, adaptive sports, mental health education, and camaraderie. It was a fire hose of information and experiences to take into daily life and elaborate on, based on your preferences and the work you need to do individually. The Heroes Haven program itself is peer led, which was awesome. Each of the Shepards, as they are lovingly called, have been through the program themselves. They had some amazing guest speakers that had fantastic viewpoints on different ways to perceive and process through trauma. The women that participated in the cohort with me were some of the most resilient and encouraging women that I have had the honor of working with in a small group like this. The National Ability Center was so supportive and fantastic with adapting to my disabilities. With their help I was able to participate in a 40 ft high obstacle course (which was super intimidating), an assisted rock wall climb, one handed archery and shooting with adaptations for my wrist problems, recumbent pedal assist bicycle rides, that I was able to use with full knee ankle and foot orthotics, as well as a few other events. I am so honored that I had the ability to be a part of this event, and see the amazing things these programs are doing. I would highly suggest you get signed up for a Heroes Haven cohort and go visit the National Ability Center in Park City as soon as you can. They have events going on throughout the year. These programs are even willing to fly you out if you are not local. Thank you guys so much for the wonderful memories, as well as helping me recognize that my body and mind can do more than I realize sometimes.
We had an Amazing Experience with NAC and Kinetic kids. This is one place I would love to visit over and over again. NAC staff you truly are special in the way you treat your guest. Speaking from all the parents we had a once in a lifetime experience with our little girl who learned how to ski. The instructors were amazing Nic, Michael and Kendall. Meghan and Matthew at the lodge and driving us back and forth from the NAC building in the mountain. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts you truly make a difference and may God bless all of you.
